This charming shop became one of the best restaurants in Bilbao in the last century, a restaurant that today retains all the spirit of that grocery store, so different for its time, and all the enthusiasm for bringing together the people of Bilbao and anyone who wants to visit us. unique products from both our own cuisine and the rest of the world, of the highest quality. You can enjoy these products while seated in our beautiful dining room, surrounded by our collection of wines, whiskies and cognacs, or in the form of pintxos at our carefully curated bar, which has become an icon of Bilbao’s old town.
Our restaurant has positioned itself as a benchmark for Basque cuisine, forming part of the lives of all Bilbao residents and becoming a must-visit for those who visit our city, as illustrious figures such as Prince Albert of Monaco, Oliver Stone, Jeremy Irons, Bono, The Edge, and others have done, coming to sample and admire our beloved restaurant.
On 3 October 1997, at the Víctor Montes Restaurant, we had the immense pleasure of hosting the signing of the Guggenheim Bilbao project with Gehry himself, Thomas Krens and Vidarte seated at the table, an event that initiated the transformation of our city into the Bilbao we know today.

We offer set menus for groups and an à la carte menu featuring hot and cold starters, fish from the Cantabrian Sea, locally sourced meat and a selection of homemade desserts. In addition, we have one of the best wine cellars in Bilbao, specialising in vintage wines and an extensive collection of whisky and cognac, making Víctor Montes a true benchmark for lovers of fine dining and local and international cuisine. All this can be enjoyed in its elegant dining room, at the famous pintxo bar or on a terrace overlooking the Plaza Nueva in Bilbao’s old town.

Wide range of culinary offerings
On the site where our restaurant stands today, there used to be a grocery store of the same name, which sold select foodstuffs: chocolates, spices, wines… products that were very difficult to find in Bilbao’s gastronomic scene at the time. An unusual shop for its day, it became a benchmark in the gourmet sector in the Basque Country.
